Your Credit History

One day, you have to accept, that you will need to have Credit. Its pretty unavoidable these days. You may wish to purchase a car, new home or even a luxury "once in a lifetime" holiday and your credit rating will become very important to help realise your dreams. The first step is to understand money management and financial matters, especially the ability to repay your bills on time within the 30-day period they give to you.

Most people use credit cards as the initial way to establish a credit rating in their younger years. Upon getting the credit card, usually with a low credit or spending limit, the ability to repay the card in an orderly fashion will help you establish a positive credit rating with the major lenders.

So how is your score calculated?

When you make the payments to your credit card company or lender, details of this are given to a credit-reporting agency. Trans Union, Equifax and Experian are the three major credit agencies. If you have made your payments consistently your rating will rise accordingly. Once your rating hits 650 points or better, your letter box and email inbox will become flooded with attractive offers for credit cards and loans. Companies will offer you the world because you can pay your bills in a timely manner.

So what other effects does your Credit Rating have?

If you do not act financially responsible, it can prevent you from renting a property, getting a new job or even simply opening a bank account. Your credit rating is very important in today’s society and that is a fact. You can check your financial status using various companies out there, and it deserves regular monitoring. Once a year you can pull a free credit report from each agency. Check the report for accuracy and if it has incorrect information, you should contact them immediately to resolve the issue. Some people believe that a simple phone call can fix everything. That simply isnt true.

Repairing a damaged credit history takes time and only you can do it. Once you file a claim, proceed with it through to its conlusion and make sure it gets resolved. Once a correction has been made you will receive notification and perhaps an amended report from the agency showing the changes you requested. Your credit report is important for you in todays society and you need to keep a close eye on it to ensure you get the credit you deserve.
