Can I sell my original shares before I receive the new shares from a Rights Issue / Open Offer?

The answer is yes, but if you want to sell the new shares as well you will have to make to sales, incurring double dealing costs. The best option is to wait until your new shares have been allocated to you, and than sell.

However take care, most offers issue new shares with the same terms and conditions as existing shares, but occasionally are issued as Registered Shares (REGD) which are not the same as the normal shares. This may mean that they want qualify for an up coming dividend payment. Once the exceptional has passed, the registered shares will be merging with the ordinary shares and become one stock class and therefore be able to trade as one holding.
